Chapter 2
Seoul airport was flooded with people, mostly Chinese. They must have been affected by the Korean wave of H.O.T, Clon, and Turbo and therefore came to Korea. Is the Korean wave so powerful? I doubt it since I don’t understand Korean at all. Then, mum and dad dragged me out of the airport. We were sitting in a Korean taxi, heading to our future home---- sung mun district. The name had said it; it was a neighbourhood district with neighbourhood schools. From a top student in one of Taiwan’s premier schools, I felt disappointed as I would not be able to be given a chance for my potential again. Why must dad be transferred to Korea? Life would have been peaceful in Taiwan. I kept grumbling until I reached our “highly anticipated” new home.
Seems like the rooftop had holes, would the rain come down through the rooftop and what if it doesn’t stop? Wouldn’t I get drenched? But the marble floor contradicted with the dirty rooftop. The long stretch of corridor seemed never ending and chilly. There were three rooms in the apartment, accompanied with a washroom in every room. The tall ceiling of the kitchen seemed unreachable. Overall, this place does not provide warmth and comfort. My face sulkened in despair.
“I will get the rooftop fixed” dad said, with a hint of embarrassment. After all, he selected this flaw-full house. Mum only had to agree and as for me, I immediately requested to get to my room.
My room was at the furthest end with blue wallpaper. The space was sufficient for me and the Q sized seems nonetheless comfortable. The bedside light had a drawing of a fair lady with her prince charming sitting on a log. It seemed very romantic. The window was big enough for my head to be stuck out of the room. The little amount of light that came in made the place a little creepy but the lights of the room made it filled with “sunshine”, filled of hope. One day, this might just be my dream bedroom.
