Prologue:
“It’s raining”, I said while looking out of the window. The rain murked the passer bys while the mulit-coloured umbrellas formed a beautiful montage. The rain was beautiful. Yet, people were running away from the rain. Sadness filled my teary eyes upon the thought that I might just never be able to return here to see everything. My school, my friends, my house and of course the contradictory rain of happiness. Carefully, I slowly put a mountain of clothes and valuables into my blue luggage. I had to leave this place as dad had just been transferred to Korea. This place, Singapore is where I grew up, filled with fun and laughter. But I might never return. Is earning money that great? More than staying in a familiar place filled with familiar faces? Why? Everything is destined; it is where our fate lies. It is unchangeable but regrettable.
Chapter 1
“I will miss you” Yi Ling muttered with tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Don’t cry, I will come back as soon as dad allows, I promise!” me, affected by her tears, started sniffing too.
Yi Ling took the initiative to hug me. Time stood still for 5 minutes.
“Last call for flight to Korea” This drew me back to the cruel reality but everything just seemed so unreal. Having to leave Singapore for an unfamiliar place, just made me burst into tears. But I know I can’t refuse. Mum and dad pulled me to the departure hall even though my eyes were still fixed on Yi Ling. If strangers were to have seen this, they would have thought that I was being kidnapped!
Bating my last goodbyes to her, I felt that the world had just shattered. What am I going to do without her? This question remained unanswered even though I was on the plane.
Memories kept flashing back during the 6 hours of pure torture. The fun, the laughter and the times we had together. Indeed the fact that I was unable to have such fun memories again, made the journey sheer hell.
